The enemy to me has always been what I call the pre-written script, that is, the story that has already been told by someone else. My only requirement is that my story should feel new, not necessarily be new. In a world with so many people, the way to achieve this seems to be with interpretation. I probably can’t do much that hasn’t been done before, but I might be able to experience it in a way that only I can. To follow the lines that have already been traced is not a crime, but to add nothing new to them seems to be pointless.
