We clapped for the NHS, care workers and essential workers. I disagree with this notion of paying lip service to an industry that is underfunded and abused by society on a regular basis. Fund them. Don’t give them token gestures like some north Korean dictator! Care about the policies that fuck them over! But… despite all that, I hear the cheering outside my window and it brings me to tears. I hear the village that I have lived in almost my whole life, who apart from a handful that I know personally, have been nothing but silent in the antisocial ways of the modern world. I hear the community spirit and I feel the love everyone in the village shares. For the first time. It’s awful that it takes such a global catastrophe to bring about such a thing. But it is overwhelmingly beautiful that such a thing is still possible, even in this world. I hope that is what we take from this situation. That we are all still here.
