Which through democracy leaves us with probably the best social system we have, ‘whatever works best, is best’ is an idea worth conserving. But it all changes when we get economic. In an economy what ‘is best’ changes to what ‘is profitable’ – which is actually ‘what works best’. But the original meaning has a silent part; ‘what works best for us’ – which is the problem, the point was to use profit as a means to improve how well ‘it works’. But we are all caught up in the method and can’t see the solution.
